Modern

Modern | Grafisch Ontwerp Modern, or 'Almost Modern', is a small graphic design studio located in the Netherlands. Essentially a poster portfolio born from a collaboration between two designers, their work represents a very minimal, contemporary style - borrowing liberally from Bauhaus and Swiss - that uses typography, words and usually no more than a single color to evoke the simplicity and beauty of pure type. Like most posters and art work, one should allow the pieces to speak for themselves, and then follow your thoughts.... More

misprinted type

misprinted typeThe scratchy, dirty, hand-made portfolio of Eduardo Recife has been online since back in 1998, and this latest 3rd incarnation is just as rough and ecclectic as before. Spanning the spectrum from print to art, fonts, collage and mixed media, you can't help but being struck by the gentle, cherubic beauty behind the deceptively haphazard compositions. It's also one of the few portfolios where you don't want to miss the photography area... and lest we forget, there's also 19 free fonts to download. Brilliantly original, from end-to-end.... More

Mike Kus

Mike KusDreaming Everyday About Design, the portfolio of Mike Kus, gives us a wide sampling of "big print" style web design. Contained in the UK-based portfolio is an outstanding example of framework-breaking, large scale, and full screen design work that catches the eye, and uses the full scale of web and print media with typographic finesse. A very inspirational merger of traditional and modern styles making a large scale impact.... More

Michael Robinson

Michael RobinsonA very enjoyable portfolio of a U.K.-based graphic designer and experimental interactive thinker. Michael's work spans the spectrum of design, with work ranging from book covers to 3D motion experiements. We really liked his minimal site with large images, and from top to bottom each piece shines with its own vibrancy. Great use of colors—and black and white.... More

me studio

me studioRocking one of the best logos we have seen in quite some time, "Me" is actually "We" - meaning a two man design agency based in Amsterdam. Specializing in typography, corporate identity, and naturally print, this site doubles as portfolio and daily blog of photos of great found type and art and stuff that shows how they think... which in turn, just may change the way you think. It's certainly great to see some daily shots of Dutch design from the Netherlands, and share some of the inspirations they seem to draw upon to create the strong type and graphic design in their porfolio. 'Njoy!... More

Me and Mister Jones

Me and Mister JonesOnline portfolio from Tom Merckx and Fanny Khoo, two print designers who keep a very fine focus on the details. Their work is intricate, with fancy illustrative collages that maintain the delicacy of lace in 2-dimensions. We also liked their clean approach to typography and identity design. This little gem of a studio is based in Singapore and partly in Belgium.... More

Mashinima

MashinimaWe're not quite sure what Mashinma does; we can assume that Grupo Audiovisual means that they're a firm which works in multimedia; Illustracion means they do Illustration; Print and Web mean, well, print and web. So apparently Mashinima does everything, and to prove it they have a site with no English but plenty of eerie imagery -- stone cherubs that change colors, futuristic citsycapes, flowers that bloom out of nowhere. It's one of the loveliest sites we've seen. But, um, we're still not too clear on what they're all about.... More

Martin Fewell

Martin FewellLondon Art Monkey seeks clients interested in presenting a pseudo-Asian, semi-70’s vibe. Promoting magenta, lime and orange as the colours of the mo. Please ring on 555-UK-ROCKS for more info. We dig it, big time. Martin Fewell’s funky fonts are on display, as well as snippets of his website design and some print work, at this conveniently arranged portfolio pad. Some very nice work for past clients is here, but a fair bit of the best is in the “pitches” section. Loads of eye candy. The ideal ad-man for groooovy CD covers, as well as companies like Orange and a restaurant named Yellow. Check it out, man.... More
