Bam-b

Bam-bThis independent artists' showcase reveals a fiercly original & often sexually bizarre, but cute, 3-d experience. Check out this futuristic miscreant! Fiercely original, strange and even cute, Bam-b is a 3-dimentional showcase of artistic expression and imagination from a Dutch digital artist living in NYC. Since this posting a few new areas were added.... More

Komplex

KomplexAn ecclectic home for intriguing computer art. This minimal cyber design combined with the specialized content takes us back to ol' time hacker daze. We like the sense of seeing the work of invisible BBS-style hackers thrown together with a graffiti-style mysteriousness to create a cool underground art community. From the site: PC DEMOS : non-interactive multimedia demonstrations written in unearthly programming languages. download , unzip and run in dos platform. might need some expertise Since this posting a few new areas were added.... Prototype

PrototypeAn independently created classic from Sweden. Hard to believe it's just a 'prototype'. Until the Scandi webgallery arrives, this is just scratching the surface of the rich web design talent blooming in the Scandanavic regions. Mattias Jonsson brings us a dynamic wonder site from Sweden. Since this posting the old site is down, but a new innovation is promised to arrive at some point in the future. We'll keep you updated.... More

Art Center

Art CenterArt Center College of Design's site is the cream of the crop of intelligently constructed sites. Never has it been easier to locate the information you need than here. Art Center's site is characterized by its utilitarian navigation; the pull-down menus are implemented to perfection. It is clean. It is fast. It is one subtly powerful site.... More

WHEREISHERE

WHEREISHEREWHEREISHERE is the web companion to the book about new media art & artists from the renown designers Laurie Makela and the late P.Scott Makela. WHEREISHERE is like a gallery site, but unlike other gallery sites showcased in past advents (REMEDI, FuseLab). It is more useful as a multimedia companion to the book than a stand-alone website. It presents modules of design work by progessive designers and artists mainly in QuickTime and Director formats. The site is down since this posting.... More

Respiration

RespirationAn online 'folio for a prolific designer with a great compositional sense. Jeff has created a number of highly detailed, textural and ultimately beautiful sites. Jeff's list of site designs reads like a Digitalthread webgallery issue. His porfolio of sites includes Land Speed Skates, the Red#40 Site, Disappearing Inc.'s Font Arsenal and the Neoglyphics Site. He has worked with Disappearing Inc, In2, Giant Step, Neoglyphics, Red#40 and CDnow.... More

CCAC

CCACA nice, slightly eclectic and quirky site for the California College of Arts and Crafts, CCAC for San Francisco and Oakland. The Post Tool founders who designed this playful site attended and met at CCAC. They've created an accessible site for their former school that is fanciful, airy and beautiful.... More

CALM

CALMIs an exhibition 'module' promoting a larger exhibition at the Royal College of Art (from May 1-21, 1998). This wonder is called 'the Campaign Against Living Miserably' and is about artists creating their own personal utopias. The design mixes naively large flat areas of colour with newspaper like halftone images to suggest campaigning and protest. The idea was to create a self-contained site to promote the exhibition which could also be read as an obsessive manifesto (and hopefully artwork) in itself. The artists are presented as a list of campaigners. Type is liberally sliced up - as in a utopia you can do whatever you want. Primary fonts - Keedy Bold, VAG rounded, Helvetica Black.... More

dotCom Gallery

dotCom GalleryA smooth reflection on interface design for this art gallery. This site shows an excellent sense of refinement that only the original designer(s) can testify to. As the site gets updated (irregularly), brilliant hopefuls like yourself can submit their cyber art & creations and get showcased in cyberspace. No longer online since this posting. Altough it was rarely updated and is now defunct, the gallery represented one of the earlier designs on the web that effectively used frames to enhance navigation rather than confound it. No longer online since this posting. see also: eyestorm, panoplie, potatoland... More

e13

e13The home of junk design. As textural simulation effects becomes more popular, the opposite spectrum of graphic design leans towards the digital bit-mapped and pixelated effects. e13 is anti-design that makes us reflect upon current trends while questioning our ability to make sense of most of the garbage that makes up what we see online. Check out our web gallery special on Art to read more about e13 and see where current design trends have NOT taken us. see also: Day Dream, Jodi... More

finemagazine

finemagazineVery fine! This promotional web-zine and artists forum has one of most pleasant and intuitive interfaces ever to grace the 'Thread. The content was originally supposed to be updated bimonthly making this magazine a truly worthwhile skulking ground, but actually, it was more of a promotional piece that helped launch Kioken's two lead designers into leadership of an established and still profitable firm in 2000. This site is no longer updated.... More
