FAILE

FAILEIf you're not familiar with his work, FAILE is one of the modern day gods of the half-tone dot, stencil art, and gritty pop-culture graphics—and we were ecstatic to discover this website covering his unique multimedia designs. Done up like a sort of yellow pages ads on LSD, FAILE's many projects pick up where Andy Warhol left off... Prints, stencils, screenprints, and videos that resemble a street art-inspired cross between CONCRETE TV (MNN) and the Cartoon Network run through a photo copier. There's just too many gems in his site to list here, but let's say: clicking around will be heavily rewarded. For us, beyond a doubt, one of the best sites and artists of the year.... More

Humus

HumusHumus is a tasty little territory where images, creativity, thoughts and expressions have no border. Bursting from the seams of this tiny visual magazine you can find all manner of illustration, photography and collage work. Mostly abstract, the work is visually intriguing and also esoteric. It's a nice launching pad to discover international artists from all 4 corners of the Moleskin, err... Globe. [ed. Screenshot credit: Illustration from 'More Than a Friend', Humus Issue #7]... More

IdeaFixa

IdeaFixa Art E-MagazineWe feel a little bad for the Brazilian football team, so it only seems appropriate to feature a Brazilian e-zine on this date. IdeaFixa is a new international digital magazine - born in Brazil - made to feature photography, design, art and illustration. No text, just visuals... Its objective is inspiration and promotion of the participant artists, and it is scheduled to be released bi-monthly. Every edition has a designated subject, and it seems appropriate to us that a room full of Brazilian designers should explore the subject of "Sex" in Ideafixa's debut issue, #01. (Footnote: our thumbnail shows a portion of Alan Maia's work, but don't miss the searing hot illustrations of Jason Levesque).... More

Encore

Encore Featuring full page photos, articles, and contests, Encore Magazine covers design, illustration, photography and film in more than 150 pages of interesting articles and inspirational work. Coming from a graffiti background, we really, really liked the hand-made type competition and the 20 outstanding winners in this issue. We also really, really liked the special on graffiti artist DAIM, covering his amazing work and thoughts on his 3D style. Encore No.21 is the latest published version at the time of this posting, however getting to Encore is a little tricky, as you have to click through a pre-entry area under the umbrella of 'MagWerk' and pass a sign-in area. The direct URL is pretty ugly, (http://www.magwerk.com/mag.php?magazine=encore&language=en) but once you get in there, well... ugliness is not a factor. Bravo!... More

Brigata Italia

Brigata ItaliaAn anthropomorphic spackling of provocative projects. In a sense, a free-form gymnasium for design ideas. Confusing? Yes. Innovative? That too. Brigata is a forum for interaction and exploration. Where that takes you, is completely ambiguous. So 'njoy.... More

Dodge Magazine

Dodge MagazineNot much of an actual 'web' design, but rather a series of digital flat screens. Dodge, Issue #1, is a print-like collaboration of several young and upencoming digital artists who created a two-tone series of flat pixel designs that are fun, and just nice to examine. At the end, you'll also find links to all the contributing artists' sites, which is useful in and of itself.... More

Cranbrook Design

Cranbrook DesignIt's been a while since we've posted a feature with great typography design, so it's only fitting that this work comes from the Cranbrook Academy of Art alumni. At this moment, the site is sparsely populated - and will always remain in development - but it stands as a great vista from which to examine the online explorations of Cranbrook grads. Cranbrook is a small school with limited enrollment, and this site appropriately creates a modern yet matured aspect that is befitting of a close, intimate community. Designed by Cranbrook students and Arjen Noordeman.... More
