We love this independent skateboarding sneaker company for spiking a flag down in a hugely competetive market with 800 pound gorillas lurking around. But we also love this site because it feels like a Flash site, but actually, it's a very cleanly constructed design with pure CSS standards that makes it super quick and also super accessible. Overall, the design of this site rules, product-wise and standards-wise. It's a great online vehicle... which in this case is not a compressed plywood board with urethane wheels, but is just as speedy.... More

A great sales tool for alta fixed-gear bikes, with a very nice yarn. Hilarious photo illustrations in a very short, sweet, and funny presentation... and besides the bikes are just sharp. The 'Thread behind the bike is that it's a joint project beween graphic designers (Bleed), furniture designers (Norway Says), product designers (Frost Produkt) and advertisers (Shnel&Melnychuck). The site for most reputed snowboard maufacturer (and pioneer) Burton's site provides two options: Core Site or Full Flash - both are well conceived and are branded with nicely detailed graphic palettes. The Flash area sports a fresh exploration nav packed with fun facts and links to 9 'declarations' (each a Flash project on it's own). The Core Site has a beatiful magazine feel - highly refined and photo-rich with clean tonal colors, smooth shapes and strong icon work - that allows casual surfing and pleasurable visuals, all while allowing you to order Burton goods online. Basically, it's 8 sites rolled into one, under a plywood branded umbrella, with numerous different blogs and lines of shoes and clothing for every extreme sport you could image. Freebord previews the world's first land-based snowboard. Or is it a surfing skateboard? You have to see it to believe it, and this site makes it a pleasure. Freebord sports a nice paneled site with a minimal, but harmonious spectrum of color choices. The illustrations for visual aids are an added treat. Nike Plus is a pretty amazing new technology for runners that synchs with your iPod and brings the interactive feedback of a treadmill right into your ear as you run. Simply stick a chip into your special Nike sneakers, and it wires information to your iPod as you run, tracking distance, calories burnt, pace and time. The site then allows you to track your run, compare it to other peoples' progress, or download their "power songs" from iTunes. The technology behind this site is pretty mind-blowing, and even though this author rarely engages in such sweat-inducing activities, we can see how runners would enjoy this interactive empowerment for their workouts....
